Progress report to date
I am currently half way through my community based learning placement, six weeks into a twelve week block. I am really enjoying my sessions so far, but to date me unexpectedly found it more asking than I had anticipated. This is not a negative; this was a huge bonus for me, for career prospects in the future and in general teaching practice. Holding the attention of a group of minors wasn't to difficult last year as all I had was five or six sessions, but when the block is stretched to a twelve week learning module, you soon realize that these guys can begin to get bored of what your doing early on, so you really have to be on top of your game when it comes to class preparation, and making each class slightly different from the last but at the same time making sure that their skill level on the previous sessions is at a level that both you as the teacher and them as the learner are happy with. Future plans include beginning to spray on our allocated wall, for practice before we design our final piece, hopefully this will be soon, and we might have to change the time of the classes due to daylight as the class time is currently 8pm-10pm. We also have a trip planned as a team building exercise for three days during the Easter break. Also possibilities of an anti drug final piece, as that is the main theme of the groups work this year, also to link in with the opening of the new methadone clinic in the town.
